HELLO!
I’m Mireya Fernández Velasco
UX/UI designer and Architect
UX/UI and Architecture combine most of my passions, from creativity to innovation, as well as user-centered designing.
My previous experience as an Architect allowed me to develop my ideas, always having in mind the importance of users. This means, knowing how people interact with their environment, and what their needs and problems are, which cannot be understood without researching first.
All of these, without mentioning the importance of creativity in both fields and working as part of a team.
UX/UI PROJECT
Filmin | Media Content platform
Development of a new feature for Filmin, an independent multimedia platform, specialized in auteur cinema. The new feature consisted of a bonus content section, as well as an event feature, streaming live interviews with directors, actors, among others, where users could chat and talk about the event.

UX/UI PROJECT
Bunny Hero | Cruelty Free App
An app that informs consumers if cosmetic or personal hygiene products are cruelty-free (tested in animals). It includes a barcode scanner and a search bar, and suggestions of alternative products, in case the product scanned is not cruelty-free, and where to buy them.

ARCHITECTURE PROJECT
Welcome to Pocerolandia | Final Thesis Project
El Quiñon is a pharaonic urban development created by El Pocero, a man who promised a low-cost luxury life in Seseña, a town 35km from Madrid, but 2010's global crisis made it impossible for him to finish the project. In this project I created several strategies in different stages: - Landscaping - New ecological public connections to Madrid, through cableway infrastructures. - A business incubator building to attract startups to the city. All of these strategies put the neighbors of Seseña first, preserving the local ecosystems and using sustainable construction methods and renewable energies.

SKILLS

ABOUT ME
I studied Architecture at CEU San Pablo University, where I also had the chance to study for a semester at Syracuse University in NYC.
I finished my studies in November 2017, and for almost three years, I worked in a small architecture firm, where I had high responsibilities and managed teams of more than three people.
It was a good job, but I didn't feel satisfied, and I knew it wasn't a problem with the firm itself, but a much bigger issue. It had to do with Architecture at large.
I learned what UX/UI was, and soon I realized that was what I had to do. UX/UI combines most of the passions I had in Architecture, such as creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and user-centered design... things I missed working as an Architect (at least, the innovation part of designing).
I decided this was what I had to dedicate myself to. So I left my job and search for the best way to become a great UX/UI designer. That's how I ended up in Ironhack's Bootcamp. I presented my final project just before Christmas, and I loved what I learned there!
At first, I was afraid that my previous background in Architecture wouldn't be useful for my new career phase, but I learned soon enough that I was wrong!
My experience allowed me to develop my ideas, always having in mind the importance of users. This means, knowing how people interact with their environment, and what their needs and problems are, which cannot be understood without researching first. All of these, without mentioning the importance of creativity in both fields and working as part of a team.
Did I make the right decision? I think so!
